Color Wheel
This assignment had students creatively incorporate color wheel into a mandala inspired design with radial balance and repetitive shapes.
Process
Final
The final piece uses symmetrical and repetitive elements with radial balance. I painted with bright and bold colors and chose to use thick stylized lines around the shapes.
Transparency
The goal of this project was to show an understanding of color-mixing by creating the illusion of transparency in a gouache painting.

I used a variety of colors in the final, but due to the similar mixing process, they remained unified. The emphasis (the crystal) gets a bit lost due to to how busy the composition is. This also prevents the painting from being too balanced either.
Color Symbolism
The color symbolism project was open-ended, encouraging students to create something relevant to their major. The only requirement was to incorporate symbolism in the colors, and if they chose, symbolism in the piece as well.
Process
Final
The use of color is the most intentional in this piece. Golds, purples, and rainbows are repeated throughout for balance, but also to communicate its themes. There's two main planes the figures sit on, the ground of the church, and around the stylized frame of the foreground.
